DAN First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuiries (HMLI) Provider Course

Overview

The First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (HMLI) Provider program is designed to teach the skills and knowledge needed to supplement Basic Life Support (BLS) skills with first aid techniques to assist a person who has become injured or ill after contact with a hazardous marine creature.

Certification

Participants will receive a Statement of Attainment indicating that they have been trained to provide first aid for injuries caused by marine creatures.


Course Structure

Through a combination of knowledge development, skill development and scenario practice, topics to be covered in the HMLI Provider program include:-
- Hazardous marine life
- Basic Life Support review
- Control of external bleeding
- Shock management
- Wound management
- Pressure-immobilisation technique
- Avoidance of marine animal injuries

1/2 day program (approximately 4 hours)

Prerequisites

- No certification or licensure prerequisites
- No minimum age limit

Course Advancement

This course complements the AED training component in the Emergency First Response Course as well as the PADI Rescue Diver Course.
