PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Program
| Overview
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. The OWSI program concentrates on preparing IDC candidates to successfully function as PADI Instructors - you’ll learn how to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs. This program also gives IDC candidates the background necessary to be adequately prepared for the PADI Instructor Examination (I.E). Certification Upon successful completion the OWSI program and I.E, candidates will earn the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating that sets you apart from the crowd. PADI Instructors may conduct the entire range of PADI programs - from Discover Scuba through Divemaster. Performance Requirements 1. Complete all 16 independent study IDC Knowledge Reviews. 2. Attend and participate in the following 14 curriculum presentations: 3. Successfully present at least 2 evaluated Knowledge Development Teaching Presentations. 4. Successfully present at least 2 evaluated Confined Water Teaching Presentations. 5. Successfully present at least 1 integrated (2 skills) evaluated Open Water Teaching Presentations. 6. Successfully demonstrate competence at performing all 20 dive skills listed on the Skill Evaluation. 7. Perform a facedown, non-stop swim for 800 metres using a mask, snorkel and fins. 8. Successfully complete all 5 sections of the Instructor Preassessment Exam. Each Instructor candidate must obtain: Duration 7 days or more, depending on candidate’s ability and performance. To enroll in an OWSI program, an individual must: 1. Be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor or as a current Instructor member in good standing with another recreational diver training organizaiton for at least 6 months. 2. Be at least 18 years old. 3. Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement for a diving medical examination conducted within the past 12 months. 4. Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months and have completed and logged at least 60 open water scuba dives and have documentation of experience in deep, night and navigation diving. 5. Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months. 6. Submit documentation of any equivalent certification issued by another recreational diver training organization. 7. If not a PADI Divemaster, successfully complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment. Related reading:
