PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course

Overview

The Adventures in Diving Program allows novice divers to explore special diving interests and gain dive experience.This program offers both the PADI Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certification options.

Certification

A participant who completes the Deep Dive, the Underwater Navigation Dive and three additional Adventure Dives for a total of five earns the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver rating and receives a certificate plus a certification card.

Each Adventure Dive may be counted as the first dive of the related PADI Specialty Diver course. Similarly, Dive 1 of a PADI Specialty Diver course may be counted toward Adventures in Diving Program dive requirements.

Course Outline

There are two required dives for participants to complete:
i. Deep Dive
ii. Underwater Navigation Dive
Additionally, there are three elective dives for participants to choose from these Adventure Dives:
- AWARE - Fish Identification Dive
- Boat Dive
- Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Dive
- Drift Dive
- Enriched Air Dive**
- Multilevel Dive
- Night Dive
- Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive
- Search and Recovery Dive
- Underwater Naturalist Dive
- Underwater Photography Dive
- Underwater Videography Dive
- Wreck Dive

Participants are required to complete the relevant Knowledge Reviews and to perform specific tasks related to the specialty activity of each Adventure Dive they have elected/required to complete.

** Divers enrolled in a PADI Enriched Air Diver course may integrate Enriched Air training dives with Adventure Dives.

Course Duration

2 Days (approximately 15 hours) to complete 5 adventure training dives in open water.

Prerequisites

Certification: PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)

Minimum age: 15 years old (12 for PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver)

Continuing Education

PADI Advanced Open Water Divers at least 15 years of age can enroll in PADI Specialty Diver courses and continue on to the PADI Rescue Diver or Junior Rescue Diver course.
